Should you even be lifting weights?

Should you even be lifting weights?

Let’s debunk some strength myths first and foremost.

- It's a guy thing
- You get big and bulky
- It burns fewer calories than cardio
- You need a gym
- You won't have time
- Muscle turns to fat if you stop lifting

I am actually giggling to myself as I am writing this or typing this - NO guys these are not true! But yes, we have all believed these at some point - including me!

So why should we be including lifting weights or resistance training in our workout plans?
Let's remember muscle is more active than fat, in fact a pound of muscle can burn anywhere from 10 - 20 calories a day while a pound of fat burns only 2 - 5 calories a day! Sold!

I know plenty of people who avoid strength training and think it is going to make you big and bulky - muscle may weigh more than fat, but it is far more dense than fat so it takes up less space! Lose body fat, build muscle and you will lose the inches!

Sounds to good to be true or simple right - well it can be! You don't need to over complicate things and sometimes you don't even need a gym or heavy weights to get the results. Here at Feel Fit over lockdown we have proved that and have some great results with just bodyweight, single weights and mind muscle connection all from the comfort of your homes!

Strength training has a number of benefits

- It strengthens muscles, bones and connective tissue
- It can help prevent injury and even strengthen areas from old injuries, when you work with the correct programme and coach
- It will raise your metabolism
- It builds that lean muscle tissue we are all after
- Builds confidence

You are never too old, to pregnant or to inexperienced to start! In fact, the risks of not exercising or lifting weights are far greater then following the correct tailored effective strength programme for you.

You don't need to spend hours in the gym lifting heavy weights to get the full benefits but you do have to start!
